Whether engaging in solo play or competing with friends, Quilts and Cats of Calico accommodates various gameplay modes. The cross-platform multiplayer feature enables players to invite friends or enter ranked matches against random opponents. In Quilts and Cats of Calico, cats play an interactive role during gameplay. They may lounge lazily or explore the quilt, engaging with players in delightful ways—whether by observing from a distance or playfully obstructing progress. Players have the ability to interact with these charming companions by petting them or gently shooing them away as needed.

The game also features extensive customization options, allowing players to create their own unique feline companion. Participants can select names, fur colors, and outfits for their custom cat, which can then appear on the game board during play. There are numerous options for player portraits and backgrounds as well, enabling a personalized gaming experience.

The musical accompaniment for Quilts and Cats of Calico has been composed by Pawel Górniak, known for his work on the soundtrack for Wingspan.
